Childrens’ Academic Workload

Tons of homework is necessary to be a successful professional, that’s not exactly what Alfie Kohn said in his article about “Kids May Be Right After All: Homework Stinks”. Studies keep the fact about homework in excess does not support the children´s learning process. Especially in early ages, kids need to acquire responsibilities but also let them be children should be a condition. Something is a reality, children learn base on playing and although we grow up that idea does not sound apart to us. If we assigned too much, anyone would feel pressured causing an opposite and negative effect. The academic load is becoming more complex to endure for children; it can actually generate a crisis if its handling is not the accurate but this can be reflected by checking the several serious problems it can brings and the workload’s results.

Depending on the circumstances  the workload can bring actually several complications such as stress, exhaustion, anxiety, depression, and loss of time because in many cases students rebel so at the end they just do not fulfill the assignments and in going through this children waste time. As mentioned in the research (Kohn, 2006) the study did not show that homework is useful or essential. Everyone know the stress, anxiety, family heated discussions and the cost of time the extra workload can brings; as a mom remark, she said that their kids are missing their childhoods because there is no time for that. There is no evidence that support homework as a special tool of succeed. Subsequently, children may be required to put effort out of reach and that issue can be related with another type of consequence as sleep deprivation. That is a huge problematic that can be seen reflected physically with headaches, seasickness, backaches and probably ending in a visit to the doctor. It can be conclude that the acquirement of information is desirable, but it has to be a balance between this and children’s mental health. Putting forward an efficient, qualified learning process inside the classroom that not requires extra class work. In that way to prevent health problems that can cause serious illnesses in short and long term.

Second, the excess of assignments should be corrected by homework's abolition. In accordance with Kohn (2006), higher scores are not linked to homework, and contrary, the result this can reveal is more negative attitudes by students. When children and teenagers, are forced in doing something they just do not work properly because they cannot find the way. Instead of taking an appropriate position enjoying and challenge themselves, they get frustrated and their school effort can be decline. Therefore, schools systems can take into account the abolition of homework base on what children’s attitude demonstrate because as Kohn (2006) mentioned in his article “Finally, not a single study had ever supported the claim that homework teaches good work habits or develop positive character traits such as self-discipline and independence” (p.165). This can tell us that students can become brilliantly and succeed by themselves and enjoying within schools as an exclusive learning site. No carrying piles of work to home.

As a conclusion, it is probably to “homework” word has been attached a negative connotation because of the several serious problems it can brings and the workload’s results. In many cultures, discipline and daily life complement the education routine people do for pleasure and this was taught from early ages. This, induce children to a sensation of not mandatory so in that way they will not work lazy just because it seems to be bored, they get interested. Continuing, that is the condition, same scholar system has been attached to the term “homework” a not pleasant meaning. Teachers can find the way to help children’s enthusiasm at the same time they are learning and let them be child at any time. A six or seven year old child are barely learning about their feelings, and why is necessary to put an extra heavy load on their shoulders.
